Embrace These Double-Storey Home Design Trends in 2025

Double-storey living continues to be a popular choice for homeowners, offering extra space and super-cool design possibilities. At Residential Attitudes, we’ve put together some key design trends to consider for your double-storey home in 2025.

Curves in All the Right Places

In case you missed the memo, curves are in. Rounded silhouettes and flowing curved elements create a touch of softness and point of difference in the overall design of the home.

Take, for example, our Mindarie display home, the Double Vision. From the external curved entryway to the cylindrical shower in the master ensuite, this is a display that’s seriously on trend for 2025.

Continuing the curvy theme is our new display in Balcatta. We can’t wait to share the Rubik’s Studio with you!

Maximising Natural Light

Double-height ceilings:

Our Senior Designer, Michal, is all about tall ceilings and letting in natural light such as that of the North Perth residence. Create a sense of openness in your double-storey home by incorporating double-height ceilings in key areas like the entryway or living room.

Large windows and skylights:

Maximise natural light by incorporating large windows and skylights, strategically placing them to make the most of light patterns throughout the day and night. This isn’t easy, and it’s why we have a team of talented designers on hand to place windows and skylights beautifully throughout our homes.

Open-Plan Living with Defined Zones

Flowing layouts:

Create an open-plan living area on the ground floor that seamlessly connects the kitchen, dining, and living spaces.

Defined zones:

Using subtle architectural elements like changes in flooring or ceiling height helps define distinct zones within the open-plan space.

Indoor-outdoor connection:

Biophilic designs continue to trend in 2025, where nature and interiors are intertwined. Using natural materials, earthy hues and muted colours will create a space that is inspired by nature.

The Arthouse welcomes you home by bringing nature indoors.

Emphasising the Vertical Connection

Flow between floors:

Make sure your space effortlessly flows over the two floors, even when there’s a ceiling between them. Consider open-sided stairs and low railings, where possible, to allow for unobstructed views from floor to floor.

Balconies and Juliet balconies:

Incorporate balconies or Juliet balconies on the upper level to enhance the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, and provide views of the surrounding area.

Creating Private Retreats

Little Luxuries go a long way:

Why not flip the script and dedicate the whole top floor of your two-storey home to an adults-only zone? Design a luxurious master suite on the upper level with a spacious bedroom, ensuite bathroom, and a private balcony or sitting area!

Take, for example, the Double Vision reverse-living home design; while the kids are downstairs in their dedicated kids-zone, you get to raid the pantry for chocolate whenever you like.

Today’s master suites rival five-star resorts, transforming them into personal wellness havens. Think heated tile floors, oversized bathtubs, curved showers, waterfall showerheads, dual vanities, and spacious walk-in-robes. The only problem with creating a luxury sanctuary in your own home? The best hotels in the world won’t compare!

Multi-functional spaces:

We’re redefining working from home. And just because it’s a study, doesn’t mean it can’t be a yoga studio, too. Let’s just call it a sanctuary for peace and quiet, and we’ll call it a day.

Sustainable Considerations

Old is new again:

In 2025, we’re seeing a shift toward thrift shop finds and vintage DIY pieces, and less brand-new décor. Embracing second-hand items brings character and personality into the home which is also an eco-friendlier choice; an attitude we can get behind!

If you’re planning on demolishing and rebuilding, is there anything you can salvage to bring into your new build? Perhaps an old mantle or vintage glass windows.

Wellness spaces

Since the pandemic forced us to reassess the way we live, we’ve noticed more retreat-like spaces within the home.

Multi-purpose rooms, such as a Pilates studio, meditation or yoga space, a garage that doubles as a gym, infrared sauna or even a virtual golfing simulator, are trends that are continuing on into 2025.

A sauna could be what's missing in your home, like this one in our custom home in Ocean Reef.

Your Unique Attitude

Forget the cookie-cutter approach. In 2024, we saw a rebellion against overly stylised spaces, plain white walls, and minimalism. In 2025, designers are leaning towards spaces that truly reflect your personality and lifestyle. We predict more unique pieces, unexpected juxtapositions, and a whole lot of personality.

“Everyone’s looking for something they’ve never seen before, something unique, something that adds character to their home.”
